SES is a values based, mission driven company. We have created a business that inspires while making a difference, creates green jobs, and promotes a healthy economy – all while accelerating GHG emission reductions through energy conservation. SES is a certified B-Corporation, and we measure our success each year with more than just profit. Staff life balance, GHG emission reductions, and promoting innovation are part of our bottom line.

Values in Action

SES is the co-founder of EarthWork Day, where our staff volunteer on Earth Day to support local community projects such as building gardens, reclaiming natural areas, or giving free tune-ups to cyclists. Check out the EWD facebook page for more stories or contact us to get involved.

We know a lot of good work is going on in the not-for-profit sector too. That’s why each year we donate 10% of our net profits to Canadian environmental charities as chosen by our staff. We also offset 110% of our annual electricity usage from EcoLogo-certified green generation facilities through Bullfrog Power.

Our central offices allow staff easy access to transit and cycling infrastructure and we allow staff to claim bike mileage or use complimentary transit passes for work. We are also working towards a waste-free office with sustainable purchasing practices, extensive recycling and composting and a paper-free filing system.

Staff also recognize each other for living our values every day using stories shared at monthly lunches. At our company retreat, we use these stories to recognize team members who best demonstrate our values. This is just one more way that SES is working hard to “be the change”.

Our story

SES Consulting began in 1975 as Sinclair Energy Services under the leadership of Ken Sinclair. Ken built a thriving consultancy known for its innovative approach, earning recognition and awards for delivering measurable energy savings.

Scott Sinclair spent the 90’s working as a mechanical engineer in construction, learning from journeyman, tradespeople and project managers. In 2000, Scott shifted to working internationally with non-profit organizations which formed the foundation of his environmental values and leadership vision. Scott returned from the UN World Summit on Sustainable Development in Johannesburg in late 2002 to take over SES Consulting.

Since 2003, SES has developed an amazing team of passionate professionals dedicated to reducing GHG emissions from buildings. Early on, Brad White joined Scott to build and grow SES into a thriving social venture. Together they developed a vision to decarbonize the built environment.

Today, SES continues to embody these values: embracing innovation, achieving outstanding results, and sharing our knowledge as we help the building sector tackle the immense challenge of decarbonization.
