SES Joins ‘Keep it Cool’ Delegation in Victoria
As BC summers become hotter and smokier, many older low-rise apartment buildings are increasingly exposed to extreme heat without adequate cooling. These buildings often house residents who are most vulnerable to heat-related health risks, while owners and operators face practical barriers around financing, implementation, and affordability.
Our CEO Scott Sinclair joined Urban Climate Leadership‘s Keep It Cool initiative on May 5th, along with leaders from across BC’s private, public, and non-profit sectors to discuss a made-in-BC strategy for scaling heat pump retrofits in low-rise multi-unit residential buildings,
Heat pumps provide efficient cooling and heating, while also supporting building electrification, reducing reliance on fossil fuel heating, lowering emissions, and improving long-term energy performance for older residential buildings. This is an opportunity to improve resilience and affordability while advancing the broader work of building decarbonization.
This is a conversation at the intersection of housing, health, energy, and economic development. We’re glad to be part of it and look forward to seeing how this work moves forward through continued collaboration between industry, community partners, and government.
